Listed below are only a handful of University suppliers that support sustainable purchasing related programs:

  • Office Supplies and Paper Products
    • Office Depot – provides “The Green Book”, as an easily accessible link on the Office Depot buyND punchout catalog. The catalog offers over 3,000 green products. Office Depot deliveries to campus are now made in a smaller delivery vehicle with aerodynamic design to minimize the carbon footprint.
  • Print Services and Toner
    • Michiana Cartridge Exchange (MCE) – provides remanufactured toner cartridge.
    • Mossberg – has achieved certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).
  • IT Products
    • Adams Remco - Energy Star qualified products
    • GovConnection - Energy Star qualified products
    • Lenovo - Energy Star and EPEAT qualified products
    • Xerox - provides Energy Star qualified products, efficient management solutions, and as a company has pledged to reduce its total greenhouse gas emissions 10% by 2012
  • Scientific Products
    • Fisher Scientific - “eco-friendly” products and a featured “Think Green” link within the buyND punchout catalog. The organization has a strong corporate culture to produce a sustainable culture.
  • Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO)
    • Bob Miller Appliances - many appliances that are Energy Star qualified
    • Grainger - many Energy Star qualified appliances and tools
    •  HP Products - provides campus with JohnsonDiversey brand cleaning products that are Green Seal certified.
  • Lighting Products
    • CED provides Sylvania compact florescent light bulbs and fixtures
  • Cleaning Products and Janitorial Supplies
    • HP Products – provides JohnsonDiversey brand cleaning products that are Green Seal qualified
    • Unisource – provides Kimberly Clark toilet tissue and paper towels that meet or exceed EPA standard

Definitions and logos to identify products or services*:

Recycled Content: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), publishes the Comprehensive Procurement Guideline (CPG) to encourage the use of materials through recycling with the goal to reduce the amount of disposed waste. Read more about CPG on EPA's website.

Energy Star is a government backed program that helps businesses and consumers protect the environment through energy efficiency. Energy Star provides a trustworthy label on thousands of products that use less energy and save money.

Green seal is a non-profit organization that identifies and promotes products and services that cause less toxic pollution and waste, conserve resources and habitats, and minimizes global warming and ozone depletion.
EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) is a system to help purchasers in the public and private sectors evaluate, compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and monitors based on their environmental attributes. EPEAT also provides a clear and consistent set of performance criteria for the design of products, and provides an opportunity for manufacturers to secure market recognition for efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its products. The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international organization that brings people together to find solutions which promote responsible stewardship of the world’s forests. Read more at fsc.org.
